OpenAI has quietly upgraded the controls in its Assistants API, making it simpler for developers to manage files when creating AI assistants.
These new File Search controls in the Assistants API are designed to help developers fine-tune the responses generated by AI agents. Developers now have the ability to modify how agents select information to generate responses.
They can inspect the results of file searches and adjust “the behavior of the file search tool’s ranker to determine how relevant results must be before they are used in generating a response.”
First launched in November 2023, OpenAI's Assistants API was described as a small step towards creating fully autonomous AI agents. This API allows developers to leverage OpenAI’s models with customized instructions for building assistants suited to various applications.
