A new report from Gateway Consulting reveals that over 70% of children in India are now using Generative AI (GenAI) tools for educational purposes, signaling a significant shift in how technology is shaping learning. Based on a survey of 1,040 parents from urban centers like Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru, the report highlights that 77% of children use GenAI for education, while 20% utilize it for personal interests, and 2% for emotional support and life skills.

While 37% of parents recognize the potential of GenAI to boost critical thinking, an equal percentage remains neutral, and 26% express skepticism. The study also exposes a gap in guidance, with 61% of parents admitting they do not actively guide their children on responsible AI usage.

Tushar Gandhi, founder of Gateway Consulting, emphasized the mixed responses. “GenAI offers great potential for enhancing learning, but responsible use is crucial,” he stated. The report warns of risks such as hidden biases in AI systems and overreliance on technology and provides recommendations for educators and parents to navigate this evolving landscape.

The findings call for increased awareness and proactive measures to ensure GenAI serves as a safe and effective tool in children’s education.
